General description

This SOOP is aimed at obtaining a detailed map of the spatial distribution of solar atmospheric  composition across a large area (near 1/2) of the Sun using SPICE in a mosaic pointings. The sequencing of constructing the mosaic is designed to follow the mosaicking pattern of Hinode/EIS.

Default SOOP duration: 50 hours

Pointing requirements: mosaic of offpointing

Triggers: only IS triggers enabled

Observations requirement (baseline)

SPICE (leads)

SPICE Composition Mapping (4 hours per map)

  • Slit:  4’’ (dense raster)
  • Exposure time: 60 s
  • number of X positions = 225(inferred, to maintain ~4 hours cadence)
  • Field of View: 15x 11’
  • Number of repetitions of the study: 12 (one at each position)

Observation time: 50 hours

Possible lines for SPICE Composition Mapping:

– 17 lines (2 profiles+ 15 intensities)

  • Ne VIII 770 Å,
  • Ne VIII 780 Å,
  • Mg IX 706 Å,
  • O II 718 Å,
  • O IV 787 Å,
  • O V 760 Å,
  • O V 761 Å,
  • O VI 1032 Å,
  • Ne VI 999 Å,
  • Ne VI 1010 Å,

  • C III 977 Å,
  • Fe III 1017 Å
  • Si II 992 Å
  • Mg VIII 769 Å
  • Mg IX 769 Å

N.B.1 This line list for SPICE Composition Mapping is similar to that of L_BOTH_HRES_LCAD_CH-Boundary-Expansion, except for O VI 1037 (removed), Si II 992 (added), Mg VIII 769 Å (added) and Mg IX 769 Å (added)

Specific selection for cooler lines:

  • S IV 750 Å
  • N IV 765 Å
  • Ne VIII 770 Å
  • S V 786 / O IV 787 Å
  • N III 991 Å

Additional comments

1.1.2 Source regions of the slow solar wind

N-S mosaic

~50 hrs + slews for mosaic of 12 positions

  • RSwindow - Earth facing for additional observation from Sun-Earth aligned instruments
  • Mosaic to map half of the Sun

The sequencing of the mosaic is changed to match the rastering pattern of Hinode/EIS
