Several Solar Orbiter instrument teams rely on the visibility of recently acquired data to regularly check instrument performance, or to update on-board calibration or processing parameters. Also several aspects of the Solar Orbiter planning concept rely on a prompt delivery of certain scientific data products. One example is the Very-Short Term Planning described in the Mission Planning Concept
Therefore, an extra priority has been introduced to make sure that a subset of the recent payload data will be downlinked at each ground contact. This dataset is called Low-Latency data. Its main aim is to give an overview of the acquired data since the last ground contact, to ensure daily visibility on on-going operations and to allow changes to future operations in case that is necessary.
